So as you may have heard, the link light rail station will open this Saturday at UW's Husky Stadium giving us the ability to take the train from there to Capitol Hill and downtown.

I just have a question for those who are more familiar with that area- is there anywhere near Husky Stadium where someone could park on the weekends if they want to go there to take the train downtown? I ask because I live up north (Bothell) and we love going downtown but hate the traffic and the expensive parking down there so we usually avoid it. We would go often if we could take the train, but will of course need to get to the train station and find a place to park to be able to do that. I know they aren't building a park and ride there, but are there lots around there that are usually available on weekends?

I'd park in the Triangle garage (UWMC) and take the skybridge right to the Link station.

No, and no. There won't even be areas to drop off people.

Seattle Times (3/13/16):

"UW Seattle lacks a place for drop-offs, taxis and ride-hailing services. Will cars stop in random places? Will potential users just give up?"

This is truly a monumental choke point and there needs to be action to improve it, even before it opens.

There is unrestricted parking along Mary Gates Memorial Drive NE, to the east of the Union Bay Natural Area - about a 10-15 minute walk to the light rail station. I imagine those spots fill up pretty fast, however. If you have a bike, that could cut that down to less than 5 minutes.

Of course, with a bike, you could find free street parking somewhere along the Burke-Gilman Trail, then pedal the rest of the way to the light rail station.

Thanks for the info. Again I am just talking about weekends, Saturday afternoons or Sundays- when you won't have students or commuters out- of course I do know that area would be an absolute mess on weekdays.

What about the parking lots right around Husky Stadium- are they included in the "free for everyone" period after noon on Saturdays and on Sundays?

IIRC the Triangle Garage is free all day on Sundays.

Isn't street parking free on Sundays, too?
