I know what happened, but, the downside to all of this, is, it's made the rest of Western Washington, pretty much in a world of hurt to some degree. What used to be rent prices in say, Tacoma, 5 years ago, are almost current day rental prices in Centraila and Aberdeen, two of the worst cities in the state and jobs, especially in Aberdeen, that don't pay, mostly, enough to easily afford 500-600 a month in rent for a 1 bedroom or 700 to 800 for a 2 bedroom.

The weather here, while above average on a Nationwide Scale, isn't great weather. The remoteness from the rest of the country and the jobs outside of high tech, may pay ok, but not good enough to live in a 2k apartment on your own. The downside is folks are keeping these jobs, but living further out and clogging up the traffic even more.

I saw, not too long ago, an advertisement for a studio on Snoqualmie Pass, 700 a month. Really?

The only other towns in this article that are overpriced, IMO are Denver and the SF Bay Area.

Seattle rents now growing faster than in any other U.S. city | The Seattle Times

Vancouver BC may be worth it but it's only since it has the best mainland weather in Canada

And "best weather in Canada" is a very relative term. It's the same weather that the OP says isn't great weather.

Actually it's worse:

Seattle: 37" rainfall
Vancouver: 63" rainfall

Best weather by Canadian standards.
Good to fair weather by American standards
Canadians have very few options when it comes to weather that mostly stays above freezing 24/7 during winter

I can never understand why the weather in Seattle has bad reputation, while Vancouver is considered to have good weather.

It's all relative.

There is no equivalent for Florida in Canada, so when you are talking about "best weather" in Canada, you're generally only comparing between (maybe) a couple of cities: Toronto (near the border) and Vancouver (similar weather to Seattle due to similar geographic/weather patterns).

It's really disappointing because I moved here from LA to avoid price gouging.
