relocating to Enumclaw, WA?
I have seen a few posts about enumclaw, Wa. I haven't seen anything about the schools there. If anyone has any info. or opinions I would appreciate it. We are relocating to the Seattle area from rural NE Pennsylvania. We have 2 children high school age, 1 middle school, and 2 grade school. Anything you have to share about Enumclaw would be helpful. Thanks!

I can't give you specific information about the Enumclaw schools, but this might be a useful resource:
Seattle Metropolitan, a respected local magazine, conducted an in-depth survey of the schools in the Seattle neighborhoods and nearby cities. Here's the link:

If you plan on having horses, you will need to install electric fences. Not to keep the horses in, but to keep people out. Enumclaw has that kind of reputation. Are you sure you want you children exposed to that?

My girlfriend is from Yakima and wants me to move out there w/ her. I read an article about the guy that got dumped at the hospital after his tryst at a local barn and I can't stop associating the state with that story.

The rest of the state is definitely NOT Enumclaw, trust me. Enumclaw is like a slice of the Deep South, right in the backyard of Seattle.

Where did you come up with that idea?

Good grief! Yeah, please try to get that image of the whole state being full of this type of activity out of your mind! Although legal according to the article, it's definitely not that common throughout the state.
The reference is to this story several years ago:

Ok...anything positive about Encumclaw? I agree with Seattlerain and scirocco22...one incident in one town 3 years ago doesn't mean the whole town (or the whole state) is bad. Can anyone else give me a more rounded feel for that area? Every town has its skeletons. I lived in Seattle before for 9 years (W. Seattle) specifically and I found Seattle to be wonderful. Now I just want to live somewhere where I can get a little land, and nice home thats affordable and a good place to raise my kids. Any other areas outside of Seattle that anyone can recommend?

It's a shame that thing with the horse happened in Washington State. I lived in the Bay Area at the time and the DJs were constantly joking about it. They made it sound like it happened in Seattle.
