What is your grocery budget in Seattle proper? We live in Upper Queen Anne and mostly shop at Safeway and Trader Joe's. What is your budget not including toiletries? We prefer to eat organic and minimally processed foods.

$400 to $450 a month for a family of 4 here and I'm on the east side. It's all about making and sticking to a budget regardless of what tempts you at the grocery store while you are shopping. I was always bad about picking up "one extra thing" when my wife sent me shopping and blew the budget regularly. Now I take a shopping list and once it is ticked off, I am done shopping.

I go to Safeway, QFC, various smaller international markets (you'll be surprised how much cheaper they are for harder to find seasonings and such), and farmer's markets. Eat what is in season and you'll always eat fresh and cheap. Cook and eat at home as much as you can and use leftovers for next day's lunches, drink water instead of coffee (sleepy? take a jog or a brisk walk), and always watch your budget.

Our family is the same, Costco seems to have way more organics than they used to. I guess we are at about $500 for our family of 3.

We have a budget for 3 adults, one child, 3 pets, including toiletries/cleaners and eating out etc and I assure you, it is way more than 500 $. It's more than 1 k in fact and we don't eat organic.

DS lives near International District/Little Saigon
We shop for food in the this area when we visit for extended stays. Restaurants are interesting here.
Meat and fish are so much cheaper.

"Cash and Carry" (restaurant supply) for bulk foods and toiletries.

Neonicotinoids are "organic" but wrecking havoc on the pollinators
