Back when I was renting (for shame!) I lived in a cute 1 br in Madison Park and it had its own dock (no moorage though). We would rent kayaks from Moss Bay and kayak our way to our apartment for lunch and then go back. Madison Park is awesome but a little small for my taste. I live on Capitol Hill where 30 somethings rule the neighborhood. My husband is a tattoo artist at the longest running tattoo parlor in the city which is a block from where we live. In fact, within a block of where we live there are tattoos, coffee, art stores and galleries, shopping, bars galore down pike and pine, breakfast joints, you name it we have it. Plus my commute is a 10 block walk to work. Most buildings are pet friendly. There is a "dog park" (that I hear is going to be expanding soon, that has no grass (all rocks) but has tons of friendly dogs and neighbors enjoying their little piece of dog heaven on Cap Hill. (East Cap Hill there is Miller Park - huge park with grass). If you are down for a little drive, I agree with the aforementioned heavenly dog park in Marymoor and I believe there's also another good on in Magnuson.

Parts of West Seattle would fit your bill very well. Very easy commute to downtown, nice views, great walking, nice neighborhood feel.

Default great info, thanks again

Thanks to pwright1 for the photos (though they all must have been taken on the same sunny day, right?). The neighborhoods I like best right now (and this does change daily) are Wallingford, Madrona, Phinney, Green Lake, and Ravenna (thank goodness my boyfriend is overpaid...I'd never make it there on my salary!). They seem to have some charm and amenities and not be too far from town...did I mention we don't mind riding the bus? I'm sure others have thoroughly explored the mystery of why this of all cities has no commuter train or subway.

I have to say, despite Seattle's bad rep, all the people on this board seem really nice - so maybe there's hope after all.

Kayaking to lunch sounds heavenly. :-)

You picked some great areas, all of which are easily transport-able via bus for a commute into the city. And all of which are great self-contained communities.

There is actually a commuter train that brings people from the South to the city and we are working on a light rail/sound transit system, will probably be in the works for years to come :\

Great thread.

Although we're not 30 yet, so much of this info matches what we're looking for.

And we're SUV driving, BBQ eating, kayak and hiking republications too. Major difference: I can't afford a 700k house.
