Homelessness isn't about homes--OR the lack of homes.. It certainly is about the social landscape in modern America though. Here in the US-of- A we have little compassion for those who aren't making much of their lives, it's understandable on some level but the lack of compassion for the poor has rendered us totally helpless with regard to the results of such a social callousness. Here's the deal that few will mention---MOST OF THE HOMELESS ARE NOT IN THE SUBURBS--AND, the suburban folks don't go downtown except for sports and possibly some big city culture, but for the most part they are content to exist outside of the city--AND it's problems.

I lived in Seattle for over fifty years, we never had such a deplorable situation as the one that now plagues Seattle and a ton of other urban high population centers. We were always the big little city, and then the tech explosion, collapse of the rust belt economy and an influx of those prairie migrants, coupled with a very desirable Northwest environment, an invitation to those with money, and, those with none. We have a very mild climate which makes the rigors of outdoor camping a bit more accommodating. Missions for food, and social services that are outreach type

Seattle's homeless are a hodgepodge of people with real problems, and it seems that as the city tries to help, more come from the eastern side of the state and from Oregon and N California. It is a national problem and a national solution will be needed. Of course the media and the happy campers in the NW seem far more concerned about a kneeling athletes waning patriotism..Like Rome, we have a ton of public distractions, sports mania, hiking, boating, dining, and a social consciousness dulled by all that glitter and a feeling that we can't do anything about our problems, even if we wanted to.

interesting.

no idea what to say! :-/ its just real sad. I would also expect for such a situation to have the property rentals/prices to be lowered too because of the fact that it really doesn't attract people as much I would have imagined, with the homeless, beggers, mentally ill on the street.
