I think we need to check out the area - it sounds as if it might have some of the things we're looking for. And it's a tiny bit closer to Seattle than Issaquah. Thanks!

Default Newport Hills

Be sure to check out Newport Hills (I grew up there - a couple of decades before "Newcastle" incorporated, however) - it is a definite "community" and a great place to raise kids. There are also some really nice neighborhoods that surround the lower parts of Somerset. (Somerset is a huge - read: million-dollar - multi million too, I suppose- homes) hill and neighborhood) - Some of the lower surrounding neighborhoods don't have the views but they do have the Bellevue School District (or Issaquah depending on direction) and are more affordable.

I am a product of the Renton School District. Avoid it.

Cougar Mountain's Red Town trailhead is actually in Newcastle, Squak Mountain is very nearby, as is a very good Thai, Mexican, and Chinese restuarant. Newcastle shares a zipcode with a par of Renton, but it's not the same city...and I believe, but could be wrong that parts of Newcastle send their kids to both Bellevue and Issaquah, but mostly Renton.
It's a very nice place, some of the advantages of Bellevue and Issaquah with lower home prices and a bit more rural feel.

Sounds like it really could be a place for us, given that we stay within the school districts of Bellevue and Issaquah. The trailheads are certainly an extra added bonus for us especially if we live close enough to not have to use the car to get to it. Thanks all!!
