What houses are you looking at?

I am just off of I-90 mile marker 18 (I-90 begins just south of downtown Seattle) and my condo is valued at nearly $600k. "starter" homes (3 bed, 1500 sq ft) are selling for over $550k. Here is pending 2 bed, 928 sq ft condo at $350k.

I gotta know where you're finding $300k homes in Seattle!

You mean something like this:

11042 14th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98146

or

10820 2nd Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98146

Both are in White Center. I'm not sure you want to send your kids to school there...

You can find 4bd houses in the Tacoma area for <$300k.

There are exactly four 4bd houses in the Seattle area in that price range, all north of Sea-Tac International Airport, in the landing path. The schools are under performing (nothing better than a "3" at GreatSchools).

I suspect the Texas-to-Seattle migration thing lately has a lot to do with Texas' oil-and-gas economy being in the pits, while ours (primarily tech) is flying.

Hey, nothing like living in the landing path! Knew a guy who lived north of SeaTac, painted "Welcome to Cleveland" on his roof!

Well, there's always cheaper housing elsewhere. White Center is a lot quieter neighborhood now that the gangs are using silencers.

Great houses for sale, those. They say black mold grows character, constant coughing definitely clears the lungs. And, I'm hearing the rodent infestation and Gypsy caravan have both moved on until spring.

My GF had her driver's test there the other day. She got 8 out of 10. The other 2 guys jumped clear.

Threads like this are actually pretty funny on their own..."applying" for tens/hundreds of jobs...DFW is "expensive". LOL. Good luck with all that.

Nah: I merely remain gravely concerned that insanity may be contagious.

You'd have to get a job, put the sale proceeds of the TX house down as a down payment, and get a mortgage for over 300k, and probably have your wife also get a job.

Although WA has no state income tax, neither does TX. A very small house out here can go up to 450k and one suitable for a family can be as high as people have said in this thread.

Really look at everything.
