Even though its been almost 5 years does anyone remember or miss Smooth Jazz 98.9 fm seattle? As a fan of smooth jazz music its too bad that Seattle cant support a 24 hour smooth jazz fm radio station. I grew up in the Los Angeles area and used to listen to Smooth Jazz 94.7 The Wave. Unfortunately The wave in los angeles dropped smooth jazz programing in 2010. On 88.5 fm in Seattle they play traditional jazz on nights and weekends.

It would be nice if an fm radio station in Seattle could play smooth jazz at night.

I remember, and yes, I miss it. I lived in San Diego and 98.1 was our jazz station, so when I moved up this way and found the Smooth Jazz station was so close, I was delighted. You know 98.1 just up a bit to 98.8. I remember the DJs and how they'd ooze "smoooothhh jazzz, ninety-eight point one...

No, but since you mention it I noticed maybe six months ago a new rock station on...hey, sure enough...98.9 FM now playing music that isn't for elevators and old folks' homes. Quite energizing, actually.

I mostly do podcasts and/or Google Music anymore, the point is largely moot.

I couldn't be happier. It's a free country, that's my opinion and yours is yours, too.

It is all about ratings and demographics. Smooth jazz doesn't cut it, unfortunately. If someone could make money with this format you would hear it on the air. When you don't, it is just the market saying it doesn't work.

88.5 fm was KPLU, but is now KNKX. It is listener-supported, so not driven by advertising revenues. Pretty much the only place on the dial to hear jazz and blues these days.

Yes I do. Seattle already had plenty of rock/alternative and pop stations (which are the formats 98.9 has taken since Smooth Jazz was dropped) and having something unique was nice. I know it's about ratings, but as a listener I miss it because it was good for driving, and I personally didn't feel the area needed another rock or pop station to blend in with the 4-5 others.

Atleast im not the only person who feels that Seattle didnt need a 5th rock station. Hopefully Smooth Jazz will return to major us cities in the near future.

I do not miss Snooze Jazz one bit. Listen to 88.5 KNKX instead, they play real jazz.

Music does not need to have all the edges sanded off in order to be good.
