Veronika, I know what you mean about the prevailing style of dress here. It doesn't bother me much because I am definitely of the fleece couture set myself although I do have more of an emphasis on, say, my haircut than some people here do.
I do think that people in San Diego can be just as casually dressed as the people in Seattle but it tends to come out in different ways. True story. We went to opening night at the Lyric Opera in San Diego. It was a big deal because the opera and the city and the neighborhood had all been working hard for a decade or so to get the old theater refurbished. I saw more than a few people attend wearing jeans and flip-flops. To the opera. Seriously. I would live in my jeans if I could but even I put on a pair of dressy pants and a nice blouse. Anyway, we had a good laugh over that in my house.

Wow, that means Harry Potter must be a lesbian mountain man. That's bigger news than the Dumbledore thing.

In general I do not like WA. I find the people to be unfriendly

Let's keep it objective, ok????????

Just kidding.
To do that, we'll add the input of a European woman who came to the PNW on vacation--my cousin. Tall, slender and stylish, she commented that the women in the Northwest were UNattractive and looked like lesbians. She used the term "washed out" as translated from another language. She said people in CA had a healthier glow. She also didn't like being "checked out" by some of these Wallingford or Ravenna Subaru babes...it kind of creeped her out.
She also said the people were less friendly in the PNW than in California. Some people struck up conversations with her while waiting for transit in the PNW, but people struck up conversations with her just about anywhere while in California...she liked San Diego a close second to San Francisco, but acknowledged San Diego was a WOW and that is was just like she had imagined.

Obviously I didn't mean they dressed like Harry Potter, but you can't deny there are a lot of women in Seattle with Harry Potter's haircut and glasses, and I'm sorry, it makes them look like lesbians.

So, if I wear a fleece jacket and accidently make eye contact with a girl while walking around Green Lake, will people think I'm a lesbian too? Dang, yo.

FWIW, I will say this:
Of my friends who are less "glamourous", all of them are married to men who adore them completely (most of them are stay-at-home spouses, and only half of that percentage have kids). My more glamourous friends -- myself included -- are all VERY single.
The great thing about Seattle is that the schleppy-looking guy or gal on the corner could very well be a technology-made millionaire, or homeless. You never really know. And honestly, I like that. Several of my friends are technophiles, and among that group, many of them are married to girls who are less glamourous. But they all are happy and living the dream, you know?
I say, no one has the right to rain on such happiness. I adore the fact that Seattlites (generally) don't care what other people think. It it a refreshing change from the way things are in other parts of the country, IMO.

Yeah, but they do carry this whole "natural" look to extremes out here.

I'm not trying to rain on anyone's parade, and I haven't been called glamorous in at least a decade, but the OP did ask for differences, and I'm sorry, but that's a glaring one.
