Default Young Couple Moving to Seattle

Hello!
My boyfriend and I are planing on moving to Seattle in late summer. He will be working in the medical field, and I will be in marketing. Probably a combined income of 100K. We have been to Seattle as tourists a few times and loved it. We currently live in the San Francisco bay area so high costs and long commutes are nothing new (I currently commute over an hour each way via bus). I was wondering what areas we would be able to afford that are condusive to a couple in their late 20's, professional, but like to go out for drinks. We also have 2 (very small) dogs and 2 cats so a small yard would be nice (even a condo with a decent size patio). Also if anyone knows, is the job market regarding the marketing arena. Should it be fairly easy to find a job? Where are most of these jobs located in the Seattle area? Any and all tips would be very useful!!! Thank You!!

Since you're used to Bay Area housing costs, I'd suggest North Capitol Hill, or Madrona. Ballard is very popular, but like Yogi Berra said about a certain restaurant " Nobody goes there anymore, it's too popular."

Congrats on moving to Seattle. I think you'll love it, it's a great place to live, especially for someone in your twenties.

Hahahahahahaha!!!!! Thank you! I'd forgotten that one!! Hahahaha!!!

SuperRed, you shouldn't need to commute for an hour by bus here if you live fairly near where you work. I often have not lived near my office, and I've commuted 95% of the time by bus for over 20 years, and I never commuted for more than 45 minutes under usual traffic circumstances. Everyone who posts on the Seattle-area threads advises that you live near your workplaces.

Any of the areas that circle the perimeter of downtown Seattle could be interesting for you, and if they're north or east of downtown (but not east of Lake Washington) a commute shouldn't be more than 30 minutes.

I've pasted below two links for NWSource, the combined Classifieds for the two leading newspapers in a wide area around Seattle. One is for jobs, and one for rentals. Useful for your research, to do some comparison shopping, as it were. Have fun!
