Monroe is larger & the downtown area is growing more rapidly than Duvall.
A big reason for that is because Monroe has more room to spread out. They have a big multiplex movie theater, a new Loew's, Fred Meyers, many restaurants, a hospital and they plan to add a big new shopping center near Lowes.

Both Duvall & Monroe have a lot of new construction going on. As you drive through Duvall you may think it's much smaller than it really is. There's a lot more to Duvall out of your view to the east. Duvall has several housing developments with plans for a new one with over 100 homes.

As far as meth labs goes, Duvall also has rural areas that could have some too. Meth labs can be anywhere. I've read that some people actually manufacture it in their cars.

I love both Duvall & Monroe.

In Duvall I enjoy the small town charm. If you get a chance, spend some time in Duvall Books. In a world of generic stores that all look alike, Duvall Books is an authentically old fashioned book store.
Also, you might want to go to the annual fireman's breakfast at the Duvall Fire Dept. on June 8th. You'll really get a feel for the town as you're surrounded by local people both in the long line to get in & as you share a table with the locals.

If want to be where there's more going on & more shops to choose from, then Monroe would be more suited for you. In addition to the places I already mentioned there's a new YMCA with a swimming pool, a large somewhat new library and a larger downtown area.

I'm lucky. Living equal distance to both, I just go whatever direction I'm in the mood for.

Barbara

Maybe offer an opinion on how this person can endure the rain rather attack her for not liking it.

If you don't have something nice to say don't say anything.

I have lived in this awful state for the last 3 1/2 years and my advice is do not come here. Find some place else to go to school. Do anything to keep from coming here. Monroe and Duvall are both horrible places (I live in one of them). My husband and I are doing everything that we can to get out of here before it ruins us mentally forever. The people seem nice on the surface, but are really some of the meanest people I have ever met. Example: You are driving in a 55mph zone and the person in front of you is going 45. When you can legally pass, you do so and the other driver will try to run you off the road.
Take it from someone from the Midwest (where people love life, and most people are friendly), moving here for 1 year will be the worst year of your life.

I've lived in the Duvall area for two decades and I love it...I don't find it nor Monroe a horrible place.

I'm sorry that you have had a bad time here.

Both cities are "friendly and down to earth". To get "rural" you need to get just a bit past the edge of town in each.
Duvall is quieter.

Wouldn't it be a great idea if you plan to, instead of complaining, enjoy the year that you are choosing for your life-path? You are the one who will make your life fun. So use your power to love your choices and fill yourself with happiness!
I agree with you 100%! Unfortunatley most Coloradans act like that. I have lived with it most of my life. If you tell them it snows, they will tell you it melts the next day. If you say it doesn't snow, they will brag about their blizzards. Colorado is kinda like a Faith Hill video. Just mute the sound and enjoy the view

I lived in Colorado for 15 yrs and now live in Washington. I will always love Colorado-went to school there, but I will never move back there. To much wind and not enough rain. I could never get anything to grow. I had a well 600ft down and got 1gmp. I always laugh when I cross over into Colorado and It says " Welcome to colorful Colorado.". I have learned that there is no place perfect and we just have to adjust to where we are. The longer you stay in one place the better!!! Good Luck with your schooling and enjoy and maybe make a scrapbook while here.

I realize this thread is old, but I just came across it. Here's the secret...
The above post was probably written by someone who ACTUALLY loves it here, and is trying to keep others out. There are a lot of people like that in Western Washington. Ha ha.

Default Slight chance o showers

Monroe/Duvall are close to each other and share the same weather system.
The weather in downtown seattle and monroe are completely different.
The weather systems seem to merge around mill creek/mukilteo and dip down through woodinville and duvall and back up.
It could be sunny and hot in seattle and drizzly in monroe and vice versa.
Either way having lived in both I prefer the back woods of monroe due to really really poorly planned main drags of monroe! Drive down mainstreet or hwy 2 and you will see what i mean.
