Default Is golf a part of corporate culture in Seattle?

I'm from the South where golf may as well be mandatory in college for business majors because it's essential for networking. The trouble is that I can't really play golf, and don't particularly like to.

Is Seattle any different?

I used to play, even lettered in High School, but picked up my ball on the 10th hole about 12 years ago and haven't touched a club since. I don't need to spend $50-100 to get pissed at myself...i can do that for free

While there are just as many golfers in Seattle as most other places, I've had a relatively successful 15 year business career and never really had a case when I felt I was limited by not playing golf. In fact, the only time it was even slightly an issues was during a trade show in the South...

I'm sure there are plenty of networking opportunities on the Courses around here...but then again, it's hard to carry on a conversation on the course when you are all carrying those huge umbrellas all day

From a woman's perspective, because married women in Calif (I'm from Calif) are considered "Golf Widows"

There's not much golf going on here...oh sure there are the guys who play year round in the weather but nothing compared to Calif. You are safe here - most people are wearing their hiking shorts and doing "outdoorsy" things more than golf

Golf isn't even talked about much, at least in my corporate workplace. Quite a contrast to my days in Phoenix and Scottsdale.

I'm from the West but lived in ATL and can see what you are talking about. In the South, it's an all-consuming passion, it seems, or at least something you feel that you have to do.

I can't stand golf. It's not even good exercise, has little calorie reduction value and is surrounded by a lot of pomp and circumstance - i.e. the country club. If you like tennis, which is cool, it tends to be played indoors at higher cost health clubs that have the covered court area.

Well, kudos to Seattle on this one. Golf didn't appear to be as big of a deal. Land is expensive and the density is higher, such that golf courses weren't as ubiqutous or as talked about as other places I've been/seen.
