Does it seem like most of the men out here are on the short side? Everyone hubby works with is shorter than him, he is a techy and is 5"11. I feel like everywhere we go we tower over eveyone (I am 5'10").

Wanna,
No problem, I'm picky as well. Every once in while I have to do an attitude adjustment myself when I tend to lump most Seattle women into a few select categories which is not fair. I may move to Phoenix or Las Vegas in search of more Vitamin D but those cities have more men that women too. I've never worried about the ratio's in a given city and I've never had a problem finding a date or a good quality relationship if I'm ready for one.

Women are found in greater numbers on the eastern seaboard for a variety of reasons but two of them are the Universities and colleges located there and all of the government work in the Washington DC to NYC cooridor.

I have lived in a few places and Seattle is drastically the worst place for a woman to find love. Fact-Seattle actually has a little over 1% more women than men and the men never leave the computer screen. All you see is attractive women everywhere. People here really keep to themselves as well. Great place for a man with some social skills! Sorry ladies, most of my friends are beautiful, fit, smart, friendly and single. Seattle is a great place to find a smart man however; it is so tough to meet a loyal man with personality.

My feeling after 4 months in Seattle is that there are far more gay men than gay women. So it evens out:-) Unless the gay men are far more open and outgoing than the gay women and I am mistaken.

This subject comes up all the time in the NW. I lived on the Eastside. There are attractive women on the Eastside, but the number of qualified suitors seems to exceed the number of available women. Earlier posts on how there is no banter between the sexes is correct. It is like a morgue. I went to a NJ suburb of NYC and, waiting for my uncle to come home from work, I went and sat on the bleachers at a park where there was a baseball game going on. I was in my late 20s and two reasonably attractive girls in front of me turn around and start asking me questions. That'll never happen in Seattle...or Portland. In Seattle proper, the women are not that attractive. I've had out-of-towners make the same observations.

Yeah, I was wondering why. What you state seems logical.

My 6' tall husband feels like a gigantic tree trunk of a man out here. I didn't notice it until I spent some time out in the midwest, but yes, it does seem like people here are shorter than average!

This is really weird. Given that most native Northwesterners are from Midwestern Germanic/Scandinavian stock, there should be some tall people around. I'm 5'10" and was middle of the range in height where I worked...I'd say half the guys were over 6' tall. Maybe the transplants and immigrants have lowered the average height in the last couple of decades. Who knows?

I call that the California factor. Lots of pretty women love sunshine and I do know more than a few really attractive women who have migrated south. You can also get by in Seattle wearing jeans and plaid year round. There's little incentive for anyone to really get in shape. Contrast that with LA where everyone wants to be in shape as social functions mean that you're definitely going to be somewhere and either shirtless or in a bikini.

There's also a growl factor here in Seattle. Women aren't particularly nice to strangers. Contrast that with somewhere like Denver. Hit on a woman there and completely bomb and she's like to laugh at least. Here's its all attitude. I think the scarcity leads to that in some ways.

People also look and feel better with sunshine around. I'm sure the permaclouds this time of year don't make people extra social.

The dating scene is not Seattle's strong point. I'd look to LA, SF, Scottsdale or Denver if you want the idea dating scene for a guy on the west coast.
