Move to the Midwest, where it's cheap.

Nice work, James. Those who want to live in War-shing-ton pay a high price ta live there. Not just with cash, either. The quality of living is slipping down in the quicksand. But don't let me dissuade anyone who wants to move there. I was born in Seattle, raised in Edmonds. And the Seahawk's are da best!

The Mrs. and I like Kansas City just fine. It is not what we thought it would be. It is actually very beautiful. It's called the City of Fountains. Water fountains are everywhere. As are beautiful green trees and grass. Some very, very nice homes here in the KC Metro, too. And it's downtown is proving to be a cool place to explore - we like an outdoor shopping area called the Country Club Plaza in KC. Very beautiful architecture there built long ago and still looking beautiful. And those fountains!

In North Seattle, I'm seeing a good number of affordable one bedroom apartments in the $1,100-1,300 range right now, mostly older low-rises - could be a matter of Boeing layoffs holding down those rents. Or new top-end supply is sucking up demand from the middle of the market. North Seattle real estate (SFH), however...

I've looked at those so-called inexpensive apartments in North Seattle and most of them are located on Aurora or North Greenwood avenue. Both are areas with a lot of drug use, homelessness and a lot of crime and burglaries. I almost rented an apartment in that area, but decided against after I saw all the methed out and homeless people walking around. You definitely get what you pay for in Seattle. I also was friends with a guy who got mugged and beat by two homeless guys walking home to his house in that neighborhood at night. It is not a safe neighborhood to live, especially if you do not have a car and have to walk thorugh the area at night. I would advise single women not to live in that area if they have to walk at night.

I just recently moved to the South Sound and really liking the area. You get way more for your money out here and the scenery is even more beautiful than what you would see in Seattle. It is nice being so close to the Sound and having Mount Rainier towering to the sky in the backdrop. Mount Rainier is so huge and massive from down here and looks stunning, much more than what you would see from Seattle where it is far in the distance.

Actually, they're all around. Only a handful are on or near Aurora, which I agree should be avoided.

Nothing really wrong with North Greenwood, Broadview, Bitter Lake, etc. - real apartments (not micros or apodments), with good transit links on the #5 and #5x to Phinney Ridge, Fremont, Wallingford, SLU, Downtown. #40 (at 105th & Greenwood) takes you to Ballard. #45 (at 85th & Greenwood) takes you to Green Lake and the U District. Free parking. Close to Carkeek Park/Beach. Not far from Northgate Mall. For instance:

More actually in NE Seattle:

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/9...?fullpage=true

Of course, once the students come back to UW...

I agree that the South Sound (Olympia/ Lacey) and the North Sound (Bellingham/Ferndale) are good areas, if you're happy living away from a major city.

Hey, Rotse, I like the south sound, too. One can even see Mt. Rainier better from the Tacoma area - it's gorgeous from Tacoma. Love that mountain!

Yep... once you leave Seattle metro you also leave Seattle prices.

Friends rent a 5 bedroom waterfront single family home with small dock in Olympia on 17 acres for $2500 per month including Comcast... but I sure would not want to have a daily commute to Seattle!
