Is that really the main thing on your mind?

Really?

I'd be much more concerned that folks in Texas are okay. People are moving here from everywhere anyways.

Don't we have a local poster (fnh?) who also lives in Houston? Do we know if she's ok?

And what if they ARE moving there ? Is there a 'problem' with that, somehow ? And even if there IS a problem...what then ?

People will move wherever they feel a NEED to move.

More likely some of the many Seattle people that have recently moved to Texas will come back. People moving here is what keeps our economy among the best in the country, and natives are now at below 40%. I personally don't know anyone among my friends or co-workers that is from King County originally. Even those native to WA state came from places like Stanwood, Pasco and Moses Lake.

Thank you so much for thinking of me, Inkpoe. As luck would have it, the kids and I are spending a "year abroad" in Seattle so we are here getting ready for school to start. My husband is at our home in Houston though. Our house and neighborhood inside the beltway in northwest Houston have not flooded, not even the streets. We are near the White Oak Bayou but county flood control efforts since TS Allison, including the razing of homes between us and the bayou, have clearly paid off in that the bayou near us never overtopped its banks, unlike in most other locations. We are so, so fortunate and grateful. Too many of our friends in other parts of town have lost everything, have been evacuated from their submerged homes by boat and in one case even off their roof. I can barely type this without bursting into tears.

My husband has been without power since Saturday but that is such a trivial inconvenience. He was to fly to Seattle this Thursday to be here for the kids' first day of school next week but the airports are closed until further notice. He'll come when he can.

ETA: Nearest rain gauge to our home has recorded 32" since Friday. For perspective, Seattle receives on average 37" for the entire year.

We don't need a wall, when we have natural barriers. Man the Cascade Passes! Barricade the Columbia Bridges! I'm more concerned with Cali-Fornicators than Tex-Asses.
