Default Seattle and rain

I just wanted to clear up to everyone that SEATTLE DOES NOT RAIN THAT MUCH ANYMORE. I've lived in Seattle all my life, and yes, it used to rain A LOT up until about 5 years ago. Then it just stopped. I remember it raining almost every day...probably an exaggeration. But not anymore. So if you're afraid to come to Seattle because of the rain, don't worry. Because it's not rainy.

Yes, it hasn't rained that much in the last 5 years. That's why November 2006 was the wettest month on record, and the wettest and 2nd-wettest days on record have both taken place in the last 5 years.

...But it sure as heck ain't sunny either. There seem to be a few days with sun in the winter, but it still can get pretty gloomy, weeks on end without the sun coming out. I don't mind it, it provides a nice contrast to my sunny disposition, but some folks find it depressing.

Default seattle

I visited Seattle about 3 years ago for a week, my brother is a police officer in Seattle and he lives in Bonnie Lake and let me tell you it was the most beautiful week I have ever seen. It never rained, the sun was shining, and when we hiked up Mt. Rainer we were standing in the snow with shorts on. That is something you never do when you live in NY.

Whew, thanks for clearing that up for me. That's it - we're moving back.

Well, you've lived here all your life so of course, you can make that assertion based on history and experience. Most people who move here are not used to the amount of rain and cloud cover and so to them, it's rainy. It's relative. No need to get upset about it. It is what it is.

I'm a Seattle native and have spent the majority of my fifty plus years here and the statement that "SEATTLE DOES NOT RAIN THAT MUCH ANYMORE" is one of the oddest things I've heard. I don't think it rains any less than it ever has, which is fine with me as the rain doesn't bother me, but to say that it doesn't rain that much anymore is very strange...

5 year's ago Seattle just said to itself... "You know, this is getting kind of old... I think I'll stop." And it did! It's amazing.
