I don't live in Seattle but it would be a place I would possibly consider moving to if I left Atlanta. I work in information technology. I'm looking at apartments in Seattle on apartments.com and they are expensive. I understand Seattle is desirable due to robust job market and how safe it is. Seattle isn't San Francisco expensive but it is almost getting there. The suburbs of Seattle (except Tacoma) don't appear to be much cheaper than the city. How much money do you need to live comfortability in Seattle? What areas in Seattle metro are affordable to live on one's own without roommates?

If you aren’t making over $100k just avoid Seattle

Ugh.. All places I would loathe to live. The above poster is right, if you are not making 100k + or have a wealthy provider/spouse you should look elsewhere.

My only suggestion would be to consider Olympia or Tacoma, but the nice parts are getting expensive here too and its long commute to Seattle.

Affordable is how much you're willing to pay for what. Budget?

Living without a car can save you $500 or more a month, which can be spent on higher rent.

Yeah, Seattle ain't Atlanta. This place is expensive, and while cheap places exist, they are not advertised publicly because -- in general -- people who are offering a place for a below-market rate want someone that they either know already OR have someone they know well to vouch for the person in question.

Without either of those things in play, you're not going to know and you're never going to hear about such opportunities. Them's the breaks.

Default just curious...

Has Seattle gotten expensive enough for builders to put up "micro-apartments"?

They are, all over the place (a bunch in Ballard). A third or less of the floor footage for two-thirds or less of the price is a good deal for the developers.
