May 16-June 9th. "The Call"- Annie and Peter get surprising news from the adoption agency as they await an African child in The Call, a “politically-charged and tack-sharp” drama at The Historic Bathhouse Theater, Green Lake. When Annie and Peter decide to adopt, they come to set their sights on a child from Africa. But when the reality of this choice sinks in, it opens a well of uncertainty that speaks to their very identity as White Americans. Politically-charged and tack-sharp, The Call is a startling portrait of cultural divide, casting global issues into the heart of an American. SIFF May 25 - 27, 2019

Indigenous Voices and Experiences includes a Friday kickoff event at Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, a free film Saturday at Seattle Central Library, and screenings of short films and feature films.

We're proud to announce a comprehensive Indigenous focus that includes the fifth 4th World Indigenous Media Lab, a workshop and hands-on training for emerging and mid-career Indigenous artists; a kickoff celebration of Indigenous-made short films and filmmakers; a complimentary screening at Seattle Central Library; a traveling shorts package themed "Doing the Work!"; and a collection of narrative and documentary features all made by Indigenous directors and other films that highlight the Indigenous experience.

SIFF acknowledges that we are on Indigenous land, the traditional territories of the Coast Salish people. This year's comprehensive Indigenous focus has evolved from our long and fruitful partnership with filmmaker/activist/SIFF programmer Tracy Rector (Choctaw/Seminole). 2019 Indigenous People Festival. June 8, 2019 11:00 am – 5:00 pm Seattle Center

"Join us to experience a day of traditional and contemporary Native art and culture from an indigenous perspective". Indigenous People Festival is a free event that provides an opportunity for Native people to celebrate their traditions and for visitors to learn more about indigenous cultures through song, dance, performances, art, food, and the sharing of indigenous knowledge.

Experience traditional and contemporary Native performances

Performances will be held in the Armory Building and on the Mural Amphitheater stage where the Space Needle acts a backdrop and a reminder of the importance of urban Indian culture.

Last year’s festival included a variety of performances, including hip-hop hoop dancers, Aztec Fire Dancers, flutists, dance groups, and indigenous rock bands, among others. This year, we’re expanding on those to include performances from indigenous artists that some might not consider traditionally “Native”. This allows people to experience indigenous culture in a way that isn’t dependent on social standards or stereotypes.

Engage with Native artists. For years, the festival has provided an opportunity for visitors to purchase authentic Native artwork and engage with artists who’s work is inspired by their own unique indigenous backgrounds.
