Well, that depends on what you want to photograph, doesn't it?
What kind of scenery do you want in the photographs?

well, my cousin is coming from out of town to visit and she is mad about photography and wants me to take her places to take pictures....and well, since I just moved here I have no idea where to go! I'm assuming she wants pictures of water, skylines, best place for a great sunset...just in general great spots to take great pictures of Seattle and the surrounding area!

I'm going to let Pwright1, our resident guru, give you his excellent advice.

One strong recommendation I would make is to take your cousin to the top of the Space Needle -- the views (photos) go to Canada, Idaho, Oregon and Japan. Okay, that's a bit whimsical, but you get the idea. Take her up there on a clear or fairly clear day, and that's a spectacular place to photograph the sunset on the water with islands and pleasure boats plus huge commercial ships in the pix.

Kerry Park (particularly if the "mountain is out") and Alki (with its unbroken sweep of the Seattle skyline) are great choices for visiting photographers.

Kerry Park - Queen Anne
Gasworks Park - Wallingford
Alki Beach Park - West Seattle

All the pictures of the skyline you'll need. Kerry Park is probably the best - the postcard view with the Space Needle in the foreground.

My favorite are:

Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill
Alki Beach West Seattle
Columbia Tower
Smith Tower
Ferry to Bainbridge Island or Bremerton (skyline shots are to die for)
Voluteer Park Water Tower
Elliott Bay Water Taxi (also great for skyline shots)
Seward Park has a perfect view of Mount Rainier
Alaska Way Viaduct (excellent closeup skyline shots heading north)
Beacon Hill
View Park at the end of Highland Dr. on Queen Anne Hill (great shot of the sound, Magnolia and the Olympics
Mount Baker Ridge
Also there's a little park above the Mount Baker Tunnel which has breathtaking views of Lake Washington, Bellevue skyline and the floating bridge.

Also near the top of the Somerset housing development in Bellevue you will see almost the entire city of Seatte, Lake Washington, Sea Tac airport control tower, Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains and more. I have a peek-a-boo pic of this.

Newcastle Golf Course is another place with spectacular views

Only go up if its nice out since it costs $15.00 a person to go up it. I think that Kerry Park is better on a nice day than the needle and its free!!

Definitely check out Discovery Park in Magnolia - there is a lighthouse out there and a bunch of trails that can lead you to sandcliffs and small beaches fit for two if you hike and seek them out. I also love Golden Gardens in Ballard.
