What the hell is going on here in Puget Sound in relation to murders, shootings, home invasions, assaults, and horrendous consistent violence? Washington is (was?) the #1 state in the nation for serial killers. Now we're just home to violent crime in general.
I heard there was a woman beheaded in Camano Island. WTF?????? Two people, a man and woman, shot in a treehouse because of a deluded belief the man had stole the shooters motorcycle(or was it bicycle?) There's a whole lot more. These are the most recent.
We have had serial killers(Bundy, Ridgeway),but these people committing these atrocities appear to me to be a different breed than what Seattle has dealt with in the past.

Aberration although a horrible story. Check the statistics versus almost any major metro area in the country. We are always very low on the list for violent crime per capita.

What do crimes in Camano Island or Orting have to do with violent crime in Seattle? More likely rural redneck survivalists and methhead addicts. Seattle is a city, so has its share of violent or other crime, but is statistically safer than pretty much any other city its size or larger.

According to Crime Scout Seattle is not even in the top 100, Tacoma is 91. Meanwhile, violent crime was up in The state overall but murder down, both still relatively low according to FBI data.

Good responses. This shows a problem with TV news...people see some horrible things, but get no perspective.

There's definitely been a noticeable increase in violent crime in recent years. Most likely symptoms of growth, and more for the existing police to deal with. Some incidents I've read about have sounded gang related...

Seattle is still well below the usual suspects (Detroit, Philly, Chicago, Oakland, etc.), and it's own levels from decades ago, but the increases are still a cause for concern, IMO.

Gangs are getting squeezed and pushed south. Some of the violence you're seeing is the result of struggles between gangs over shrinking turf.

I'll agree with everyone else in the thread. Property and petty crime might be up (thanks to the Opioid crisis and homelessness) violent crime is way down.
