What are the most family friendly neighborhoods in Seattle and the Eastside? Looking for an area where neighbors actually know each other, and kids play together in packs without arranging a playdate. Does this even exist anywhere in the Seattle area?

I saw groups of kids playing in the street in northwest Magnolia (near Discovery Park). Pretty much needs to be a street with virtually no through traffic (I was walking).

ALL. THE. TIME. I live in the Issaquah Highlands. Everything here is family-friendly, but for the unstructured play it's best if you live near one of the pocket parks or near any of the condominiums. If you can spend $1.2mm (and up) I would recommend Dalia, Magnolia, Pine Crest, Forest Ridge or Davis Loop neighborhoods. There are others, but these are solid kid-filled areas. If your budget is under $1mm you can get into a condo and still enjoy all the benefits of a family friendly neighborhood.

Neighborhoods with quiet streets seem better for that. On the Seattle side, Madison Park, Magnolia, parts of West Seattle, Wedgwood are all places I see packs of kids.

Parts of Victory Heights have that. There's a neighborhood park, and many of the streets only get neighborhood traffic. It's a quiet little oasis between 15th NE/Northgate Way and Lake City Way. The area closer to 15th NE is best, and is very walkable. Grocery, coffee shops, etc. nearby.

Mercer Island is a place where kids run in packs. Great place, if you can afford it.
