Try 110 in Tri-Cites tomorrow. a "tri-ing" time even for some of us who are more used to these triple digits! Atleast the Tri is AC'd to the hilt.

So back to the subject of the thread. As I have mentioned before, most new construction, both homes and apartments include AC as a feature today. Part of this is due to climate change, part of it due to making these products more marketable.

If the places with A/C are warm, it means their compressor is too small. I suspect that heating/cooling businesses arrive at a recommendation for A/C power based on a aquare-foottage formula, without taking into account heat waves, apartments designed with a wall of windows in the living room, south-facing or west-facing window-walls, and so on. The complete picture is not making it into the formula. People need to buy a bigger A/C unit than the minimum recommended for their square footage. Otherwise, eventually, their A/C might get over-burdened, and may burn out prematurely. I've known of compressors that burned out for those reasons, while still on a 2-year warranty.
