reasonably priced hotel near 6th avenue and Union?
My husband is coming to Seattle for a conference that is being held at the Washington Athletic club at 6th Avenue and Union. There are rooms reserved for participants of this conference at $189 a night. He really doesn't want to spend this much money and he's willing to stay up to a mile away. Are there any hotels/motels in this vicinity that are $100 or less per night? He doesn't mind dives, but the issue is that I am coming out to join him later in the week and I'd prefer to stay someplace I feel safe arriving at by myself. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hotel Seattle, at 315 Seneca Street is reasonably close, and has recently been renovated. Not in a bad area, and has long had a reputation for being a good value.

$189 a night is a really great deal for the WAC. There are some motels north of that area (the Sixth Avenue Inn, Kings Inn, Days Inn) - but they will even be in the $120 range.
The really cheap motels are either North on Aurora or South at Seatac.
Good luck!

"The really cheap motels are either North on Aurora or South at Seatac." Yes, and you don't want to stay in either of those locations -- not the most savory.

When is the conference? Have you checked Hotwire or Priceline? There are some good websites that offer pretty reliable information to identify the hotels offered on these sites (for eg. betterbiddingdotcom). You could also check into the Silver Cloud hotel chain. There is one located in Capitol Hill (intersection of Broadway and Madison) that is not too far from your husband's conference location. Its nice and might be a bit less pricey. I stayed there when I came to town for my job interview and enjoyed it. Its not a 4* hotel, but is very comfortable and offers nice amenities (fridge/microwave in in the room, etc).
