I can't say I hate it and am not a native but lived here almost half my life. I used to love Seattle when you could hop on a ferry on a sunny Saturday without much line or drive north without getting stuck in the Everett back-up. Like others, the lustre has worn off. I would prefer to live somewhere sunnier and in a smaller, more family-oriented place.

I agree that hate is too strong of a word......except when it comes to moss and mud! I need warm sand between my toes. I can enjoy it here for a while but I know I can't stay.

Hahaha, you get a rep point for making me laugh wih the julienned stewed carrots and ice cream -- which kind of sounds good, right?

I'm a transplant and loving it, but don't plan to stay the rest of my life. I love Seattle's natural beauty, weather, laid back sort of small town atmosphere yet big city culture and amentiies. Also what a like is Seattle is a realitively safe big city with far fewer aggravated assaults and homicides than most big cities. I really feel safe walking the streets of Seattle day or night. Compared to cities I lived in this seems like Mayberry in that department.

AMEN!!! As a former NYC person for 30 years in midtown Manhattan, I agree! You are so right, Pwright! You said it perfectly: "Mayberry" by comparison.
The crime here is usually against possessions rather than persons, and I'll take theft over death any day!
(It sez I must spread the rep around before... Just please know I tried :-)

Well, we moved here, and were really hating it, but I joined some mommy meetup groups, so I'm not as unhappy as I was before. We're still only staying for 4 years or less, though.

My thoughts...
My wife and I are very excited to be moving out to Seattle in a couple of years. I can’t imagine the weather bothering me much, since I've lived my whole life in the Cleveland area, and have been either frozen, or melting most of the year!
Not to mention the job market, which here in Cleveland is pretty much non-existent, unless you work in the medical or service (retail) industries.
My wife, who is studying architecture, and me as an IT guy would have a lot better luck finding rewarding careers in the Seattle area.

well, I'm not a native and we just moved here. Not saying I hate it, it's just not what we expected. Not sure what exactly we expected, it's just different than we thought. It's nice enough, love the weather, it just doesn't feel like home.
It's like I keep waiting for someone to say, vacation over, time to go home. Only problem is, I don't know where home is.
Of course, I've only been here 3 months, so go figure.

This is how it was when I moved here...like I was waiting for the vacation to be over so I could fly home - but the thing was I had moved, so this WAS home...
It still doesn't really feel like home. It makes my husband sad that I don't feel like it's home. And it's been four years

I voted planning to relocate (June) and nervous. I think the Seattle area will stretch our budget a bit much because of the high rent, and the traffic/congestion will take some getting used to. The weather is something I'm looking forward to--anything different at this point sounds great. Also, our dream of owning a home in the next few years likely won't happen unless we settle on something much smaller and older than we would want.
