lo, TX or AZ, depending on if they want 100 degree weather with crazy neocons and humidity, or with crazy neocons and no humidity.
I have not put in my answer yet, but after spending a lot of time in Southern AZ, I realized that I missed an awful lot about the NW that I used to take for granted. I am torn between the politics here, the people/culture (reflecting a more cultured sense of politics ), the weather, the beauty, the recreation, the economy, the safety, the fact that it is a very dog/pet friendly place, the fact that my family has lived here since 1919 (gran and gramps moved here from Norway back then) the rural areas not far from the city, the great shopping, Beringer Farms, State Fairs, Skagit Valley and tulips (GO, by all means go because now is the time! The 25th Annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival ) , the ferries (not for a daily commute though!), the backyard wildlife of racoons & eagles & possums, Golden Gardens, Carkeek, Fremont, Phinney- okay okay I am going off here...

I know some people in Texas who just got zapped by a big storm. I asked if they lost power during this -- nope!
Wow, in Seattle, someone sneezes funny and the power's out for a week.
Well done, Texans!

no particular order:
economy
schools
low crime
traffic not as bad as other places
clean
no state income tax
friends/family
rarely gets too hot or too cold
a lot of these are relative to other places of course
Rain does get tired after 3-4 weeks straight but the climate is the same in places like Vancouver, BC and London but people manage and enjoy those places just as much. Skiing/snowboarding is awesome when it rains a lot in the winter!

Yeah it takes something pretty massive to knock our power out and when it goes out, they begin to fix it immediately and will be back up before the night it done 9 times out of 10.

Wow.. this thread didn't get nearly the attention the "why would you leave seattle" one did. I wonder if it's attributed to the fact that negative things generally get more attention, or just that most of the people on here actually -don't- like Seattle?

Not true about power going out in Texas and getting turned back on ASAP!! At least it wasn't for me. I lived in an area with a bad transformer and our little street went out every time there was a bad thunderstorm (which is a lot in Austin). It was so frustrating. We could look across the main thoroughfare and everyone else's lights were on. Never got fixed in the 7 years I lived there...and then I moved to Sammamish. Same thing happens here but they usually get it back up pretty quickly...probably because I live right off a main street.

I think the major problem is trees. High winds and thoroughly water-logged soil can cause trees to fall (or large branches to snap) onto power lines. I too always wondered why power would be disrupted during a snow storm, then I saw a tree branch snap under the weight of snow as it fell directly onto a nearby power line. Sparks flew and then the lights went out.
