This is a good read from The Times. I was surprised that only Miami-Dade, and Harris Co. (Houston) had larger immigrant growth.

Goes to show Seattle is very diverse, just that Asian is heavily weighted. My concern with growth is not immigrants, it's everyone.

It’s very significant that half of the county’s growth came from immigration. That’s very high. Clearly the Amazon/Microsoft effect is the primary pull factor, with Seattle being a refugee destination a not so close second.

500,000, that's quite something. Yes, this should put the "no diversity" label to rest. Confirms also that we have a significant Latin American born presence in Seattle, that's not even counting Pierce and Snohomish Counties. The "Africa" numbers look low, I think collectively, the Ethiopian, Eritrean and Somali numbers must be higher.

Do you happen to know where the original study is that they cited? I’d be interested in the methodology they used. I have a hard time believing that Somalis aren’t even in the top ten countries for King County. There are many, many of them here.

There’s a relatively “significant” presence from Mexico, but not from elsewhere in Latin America.

They estimate 92,000 from Latin America and 57,000 from Mexico so there must be a lot from other Latin American countries

Bellevue is now 39% foreign-born.

Maybe more now since this is from 2017.

I’d be surprised if any nationality is greater than 3-4,000, unless something has remarkably changed in the past year or so. A fellow city data member meticulously complied foreign born populations by metro area and nationality. For Latin America, Seattle was a top 10 metro only for Nicaragua (10th Place, 3809) and Chile (7th, 1690). This was a 2016 list and for the entire metro area.

2016 Top 10 MSAs per Country for Foreign Born Population (MSAs of 1M+ People)

At any rate, I would like to see the full list, not just the top 10.

Boeing, Microsoft, and other companies in the area have benefited heavily from skill immigrants.
