I'm a centrist on many things. But here's where we differ: I think about my country before my tax bill.

Also I acknowledge that there are two sides of issues like I did in my last post. Integrity and honesty are things.

Since we're not talking about net addition of taxes, why would it matter to us?

(If there was some net addition that would be fine with me, and I vote yes for most measures to tax my property etc., but that sort of measure wouldn't win so it wouldn't be the proposal.)

Wow strong virtue signaling, if only we could all be so wonderful

Feel free to write a check to the state to help your city/state/country/etc. if more people focused on improving themselves, rather than what they can get out of others who work harder, we wouldn’t even need to discuss an income tax. We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending and entitlement problem

I wouldn't expand entitlements. But education, transportation, etc., are the foundations of Seattle's and Washington's prosperity. And we need some safety net...in another thread we're talking about doing more to get crazies off the street, which costs money.

You can control what you spend, but you can't control what comes out of your paycheck.

There's a reason why businesses set up shop in the state. There's a reason Amazon puts up with Seattle and is setting up a smaller shop in Nashville. If you implement an income tax then you BETTER cut or eliminate your other taxes across the board to make up for it, and not just the elimination of the sales tax either.

Cute, but this would be illegal under the US Constitution. It would be a 'bill of attainder.' (legislative targeting of particular individuals).

State legislature is now talking seriously about reviving the 'Carbon tax.' A measure, I-1631, was voted down last Nov. by a pretty solid 56%-43%.

The new proposal includes a 6 cent gas tax increase. As far as I know, Gov. Inslee's proposed capital gains tax, which I oppose strongly, is also still on the table this session.

Amen. Let's crank the sales tax up to 25%. If you buy with credit, make it 35%. Don't want to pay tax? Save your money.

So even more regressive that the current system, i.e. the less money you make, the larger the percentage that probably goes to taxes?

I guess it would save people with corporate incomes like me some money, so screw it, right? Or...we could try for a fair system.
