Is Bellevue really that bad? I want a tolerant, safe community that I don't have to be filthy rich to rent in.
Um, NO, your friend is way off key....there is crime like anywhere else...but when I think of Bellevue, gangs don't come to mind.....but upscale living.....gangs = roaches.... I agree Everett might be what he had in mind...

Because of it's generally increased elevation, SE Arizona tends to have much more moderate weather than the area around Phoenix - still warm mind you (but of course that's what we want) but NOT a blast furnace.

Our property sits at 4,200 feet, has average highs of 92 in June, 91 in July, and 88 in August - nice and warm but hardly the furnace that Phoenix is. It also gets between 16-20 inches of rain a year (about the same as Sequim - but admittedly in a different pattern that results in generally drier terrain than Sequim (but not barren either)).

In addition winter temps are pretty darned nice, with average January highs of near 60 and average January overnight lows of around 37/38. As it happens, we have a Wunderground.com online weather station that happens to be 300 yards or so from our land, so I can monitor the weather whenever I want (even from here in Seattle) - or look back over the last 4 years worth or hourly weather readings - which is where I'm getting those average temps I mentioned above.

During these last 4 years we've averaged just 3 days/year where we edged our way over 100 (barely), with the highest day during that entire time being 101.5. As I mentioned, most of the time our summer temps are in the low 90's or upper 80's.

We're 4 minutes from the freeway, but in a quiet area that backs onto state land, 10 minutes from a town of 5,000 or so (Benson), 35 minutes or so from Sierra Vista (a town of 35,000 or so) and 40 minutes from downtown Tucson (a city of 1 million).

I think that will suit us just fine.

Ken
I lived on the base Ft Huachuca(SP) for 1 year just outside Sierra Vista. Hated every min. But that was a good 40 years ago. LOL. To dry , hot
and dusty. We had no lawn (grass). Cactus and tumble weed!!!!They told us when we could wash our cars as water was rationed even back then.
Spent 31 years after that in Anchorage, Alaska and grew up loving it there.

Wow!!! I can tell right now that you and I are POLAR (pardon the pun) opposites. Anchorage - Geeze!!!!! My sister spent 3 years up there and couldn't wait to leave (I don't think I'd last anywhere near that long - I like warm weather too much). I CAN say that I spent 18 months in North Dakota and suffered through two of their incredibly frigid winters (colder actually than Anchorage in the winter - though warmer in the summer) as well as 4 snowy cold winters in Michgan.

I think you would find SV much improved (or at least much more developed). No doubt still too warm for you though.

Ken

yeah, there are gangs in Bellevue, they are called Russian Mafia and live in billion dollar mansions.

...but have no worries about them bothering you. these guys are not after your wallet or car. they play it BIG!!!

Wow, I guess I better not move from Long Beach, CA to Bellevue in a couple of weeks. I can tolerate the gangs here and they are everywhere.

This thread made me laugh. Yeah like everyone else said gangs are everywhere, but I would expect them to reside in the $400 a month rental areas and not the $1400 rental areas.

I better watch my back when I am the factoria mall for all them gang members.

I think I will like WA.
