Good morning all,

Was just searching for something "cultural" to do with our 13 year old daughter, found this very interesting looking play (below) at Seattle Children's Theatre. It got me thinking about the amount of collective knowledge that we have on this forum. If you have anything to share about upcoming events for adults, children or anyone, please share. Rock and roll and EDM shows, art openings, kids' events, avant-garde live theater, poetry slams, Greek Festivals, everything welcome! Perhaps this can be an ongoing thread if you like the idea.

The Journal of Ben Uchida: Citizen 13559

Adapted by Naomi Iizuka
Based on the Dear America series book by Barry Denenberg
Produced with special permission from Scholastic

February 8–March 4, 2018

“I was born here. I’m from here. I’m American.”
Witness the story of 12-year-old Ben Uchida, a Japanese-American boy whose life is changed forever following the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor. When the U.S. government forces Japanese-American citizens into incarceration camps, Ben and his family must face difficult truths about the idea of home. One young person’s struggle to understand a society allowing mass discrimination against its citizens poses questions as urgent today as they were in the past.

Good idea, homes.

Teens in Seattle can take advantage of this program: https://www.teentix.org

TeenTix is a free pass that gets you in to movies, music, theatre, dance, visual art, and more for just $5. Sound too good to be true? We know. But it’s true. It’s true! Really. Just ask the thousands of teenagers who use TeenTix every month.

https://mohai.org/exhibit/seattle-on-the-spot/ (at MOHAI in SLU through June, 2018).

Al Smith’s photography chronicled Seattle’s vibrant Central District neighborhood and the city’s African American community with great warmth and intimacy. Seattle on the Spot: The Photographs of Al Smith honors 65 years of Smith’s brilliantly expressive documentary photography and celebrates the neighborhood and people who inspired him. Take a look at Seattle through this distinctive lens.

Brand New Exhibit at Seattle Art Museum, going tonight to members' opening and taking daughter: About - Figuring History

Figuring History: Robert Colescott, Kerry James Marshall, Mickalene Thomas brings together three generations of contemporary American artists, whose work challenges a Western painting tradition that underrepresents people of color. The vibrant and monumental paintings by these artists offer bold perspectives on Black culture and representation. Presented together for the first time, the figurative paintings of Colescott, Marshall, and Thomas are shaped by distinctive historic events, unique in style, and united in questioning the narratives of history through Black experience.

Our 13 year old daughter saw great Musical "Mamma Mia" with friend for $5 tonight on the Teen Pass at the 5th Ave Theater. She loved it. 2 1/2 hours, long enough for parents to have dinner and drinks. Here's the link: The 5th Avenue Theatre

I need a few daytime activities for next week. No more than 3 hours. In the afternoon. Not too much music, culture or art happening in those hours unfortunately. So far Atlas Obscura has recommended:

Take a water taxi to West Weattle and have a spam burger...

Visit the "Seattle's Official Bad Art Museum of Art".. aka OBAMA () in the UDistrict.

I could REALLY use 2 more ideas...

And damn the OBAMA is apparently closed. I guess I could just go walk down any Goodwill art aisle if I want to see terrible art..
