Wow, Snoqualmie is growing. Is the growth ruining the look and charm of the city or is it still quaint?

Historic Snoqualmie is still quaint, but more vibrant. The growth is happening around it's little city center. The roads around the falls have been widened and updated, which has definitely changed the look and feel around that area. Most of the growth is on the Ridge.

What does historic mean? Old and rusty? I like growth because it makes things a lot nicer in general.

In the case of Snoqualmie I'm talking about the store fronts located across the street from the train Depot. Not sure when they originated, but they seem earlier 20th century, but not as old or developed as historic Issaquah which was a mining town during the turn of the 19th/20th centuries. The time before cars and highways when rivers and railroads dictated development.

I personally like a balance of history and modern growth. That's the great appeal of Issaquah for me.. it certainly has both and they are nestled between mountains and a lake.

We considered Snoqualmie too, but it was a touch too far, the schools were a touch less regarded and, at the time, amenities were a touch too underdeveloped.

Quite a few people in this area love historic and character homes, often they have interesting architecture and anchor little areas of homegrown local businesses, cafes. I've also found that they can exist and add charm to places where development is happening. I believe touchstones to the past are important to all of us.

And if you need to visit a post office during the holidays go to the one in Preston (just east of Issaquah).

That's my favorite shortcut to Tacoma. Rt90 to exit 25 (Rt18) Snoqualmie Pkwy. Only I learned to avoid exit 25 during afternoon rush hour. YIKES!!! Traffic for that exit can backup for a mile on 90.

With that area only building up its going to happen sooner or later. 18 is such a peaceful drive to Tacoma.
