Default Seattle/Puget Sound area rentals

Hi, My mother and I (she is in her 80's) are relocating to the Seattle area this October from Henderson, Nevada (Las Vegas).
I am a food server and will be going to school, she, of course, is retired. We need some advice on decent areas to rent either a house or apartment. We cannot go above $1000. month. Can it be done?
I am 51 yrs old, do you have any adivce on cafe or diner jobs. Thats what I do here in Henderson right now. I would like to keep at it, as the money is good and the hours are minimal and it leaves me more time for school and to care for mom (even though she is pretty independent)
Any advice would be appreciated.

Yes, it can be done. The outlying areas (towns) of Seattle would have more
opportunity to find rentals in that price range. We currently have our house in Everett rented for 1000.00/ month.
