Default Moving from DC to Seattle

Hello Everyone!

My Girlfriend and I are moving out to Seattle in late June and I just wanted to touch base with some real Seattle people I met a few earlier this month when I visited and I was really impressed! At this point we are looking for a place to sublease for the summer and trying to figure out how to get out stuff out there. So if anyone has suggestions or information you think a newcomer like me should know, I'd love to hear it!!!

Thank you!

Hi Serrinon. Welcome!

About sublets: subletting is not a way of life out here, but maybe you could find a sublet on craigslist. However, short-term renting IS popular here, especially while people figure out which area they want to live in. "Short-term" usually means 6 months, but many places rent on a month-by-month basis with no specific end date in mind. Here are the best places to look:
NWapartments: Seattle apartment rentals, house rental listings, rental classifieds and other property rentals in Seattle, Tacoma, Bellevue and other Washington areas, cities and neighborhoods
Click on locations on the NWSource map to drill down to neighborhoods that might interest you. A great map showing in detail neighborhoods only within the city limits of Seattle is (click anywhere to enlarge):

craigslist

About moving, how you do that depends, of course, on how much of your possessions you want to bring with you. There's an entire forum on City-Data where people constantly exchange information about the best ways to move:

Come on back with any of your questions! Have fun planning!
