Mercer Island also has the nickname " The Rock".

I'll also chime in that I've never heard anybody call it "Mercer" either. It seems like most residents I've run into will sometimes refer to it as "the island" but personally, I've never heard anybody refer to it as just Mercer.

I do agree with this. Both East Lake Sammamish Pkwy and West Lake Sammamish Pkwy are known to have heavy congestion at times.

AND, 148th AVE can get VERY congested at times ...stop-and-go congestion.

I don't know! I have heard it been called "Mercer" as in, "Take the Mercer exit" or "It's out on Mercer", or "We might move out to Mercer" etc - and have used it that way myself.

Maybe it's a generational thing, as I think several of you are older than I am.

I think the reference is to Mercer Street in Seattle ...well, the first two examples, anyway.

No, because these were conversations I actually had with people - and they weren't talking about Mercer street.

*laughs* ok, let's move on. We shall agree that young folks may call Mercer Island "Mercer" and us older folk call it "Mercer Island."

Now, what was the OP's original question?

I live in Issaquah and commute to Redmond. I almost always take East Lake Sammamish Parkway. I normally commute fairly early in the morning (5:00-6:00 AM) and it's a breeze. On the few days I've gone in late, traffic seems to start building up around 7:00 AM and there can be as long as a mile backup to get into Redmond, at times.

Afternoons seem to be no problem at all, though. I've commuted home at various times, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM, and the "traffic-iest" part is getting through downtown Redmond. Once you hit the Parkway, it's fairly smooth.

On the few days I've decided - for whatever idiotic reason () to take 520 West to 405 South, I've always regretted it, especially when going through Bellevue and trying to get on I-90. Stop and go. No fun. And as others said, it can be especially "fun" on Friday afternoons.
