Moving To Capitol Hill... am I making a wise decision?
So I'm heading to Seattle to start my career, fresh out of CU Boulder, Colorado. I flew out there for one day and drove around the city, went around Queen Anne and Capitol Hill and decided on Capitol Hill because I found a better deal!
I'll be living near Roy and Broadway, what can I expect? I'll have off the street parking and I drive a pretty beat up chevy malibu so I don't imagine ill have much to worry about in terms of car theft. I know it's a big gay area and I am fine with that.
But howabout everything else? Drugs, Hookers, Murders? Is Capitol Hill a decent area... or at least near Roy and Broadway? Or am I makin' a big mistake!
Thanks a million.
Oh yeah and I bike a lot, and I hear it's a pretty bike friendly city but how do you do it in all that rain!

Roy and Broadway is fine, much better than further south on Broadway. Murders and hookers very unlikely in that immediate area, but you shouldn't have to travel far to find drugs if that's your thing.
...And the Deluxe Tavern may have the best burger in the city( at Broadway and Roy).

You'll be in a fun location! I lived in Capitol Hill for 5 years and loved it. A bit noisy late at night on weekends, but if you sleep well there's no problem. No, don't worry about murders or hookers, and if you have off-street parking, car theft will be less of a problem than for others especially with your older car. Just to be safe, though, you might want to go to a car supply store and invest less than $50 in The Club; used correctly, it seems to be a deterrent.
Every kind of store, shop, eatery and bank you can imagine is around there, as you probably saw! If you like city life, you could love living there! Go forth in joy!

That's a great location provided you don't expect suburban quiet on weekend evenings. There is a new, pricey condo complex (The Brix) going in a block or two south of there on Broadway. Parking will be your biggest frustration (you may need to circle a few times to find a spot).
I live at Roy and 15th Ave. E and have given thought on occasion to moving closer to Broadway and the "action"...

Well, it doesn't "rain" much -- it drizzles a lot in the winter, and sometimes it mists. With your bike helmet on, you'll hardly notice it. Showers are sometimes. Rain rarely. Downpours maybe three times a winter, for 2 minutes each. That time of year is chilly, and some think it's cold, so that will be your biggest biking concern. Bike on! Tons of people do here, all year.

Um, no.
Best burger? Quite possibly the one at Quinn's Pub.

Capitol Hill is a wonderful place to live. We've been here a month and love the easy access to everything. We're east of Broadway so it's very quiet here. Best of both worlds in my opinion.

Is Capitol Hill a good place to raise children in the City of Seattle? I have been looking at the Bush School as an educational option and have been looking at renovated and new construction homes in Madison Park, and Madrona. I am still a little torn because I really love the suburbs of Seattle as well, but would love to try living in the city.
