The last time they did that, years ago - people camped out for days to be the first to put down money on a lot.

I hope Quadrant sells these quickly enough to realize that they'll make a lot more money making affordable houses that move off the market in days rather than more expensive houses that sit on the market for months.

These can't be "flipped", right?

Not much is getting flipped these days. These homes aren't subsidized by tax money, anyway - it's just a company building affordable, modest homes instead of putting in granite countertops and 17 bathrooms. If the owners can flip them, go for it. I wouldn't begrudge someone of modest income the chance to make a little windfall. Quadrant will have already made their money.

I think the cost of these houses is somehow subsidiesed by the government. You have to meet certain income qualifications in order to buy them. They opened up the interest list online today at 10am. That's about all I know.

I'm pretty sure that the local government made Quadrant/Weyerhaueser jump through a lot of hoops in order to put the development in, including a certain number of homes for people that earn less than the median income in the county.

And the cost of all new homes is subsidized by taxpayers, regardless of how cheap or expensive they are - the new roads and infrastructure required for the development and the area around the development are usually paid for by the government.
