We currently live in Dallas and are from Seattle. We can't wait to get back to Seattle. Seattle is a lot less consumption oriented. The type of car you drive is a lot less important in Seattle than it appears to be in Dallas. Sense of style is much different (think REI) and activities are more oriented toward the outdoors than shopping. Asian food is of course MUCH better and there are some great taco trucks and other food in the Seattle. The gray will probably take a few years to adjust to, but like you, I HATE the heat (is it November yet?) and Seattle has a great climate for people like us. One complaint commonly lobbed at Seattle (and Portland) is that people are cordial but do not readily invite people into their home and that its hard to make friends. I think there is some truth to this, so I'd be prepared to give developing friendships a bit more time. We've considered moving to Portland b/c home prices there are substantially cheaper but with the state income tax (9%) the benefit of the cheaper homes is mitigated. Also Seattle is prettier...there are more bodies of water and more elevation changes. (WA like TX has no state income tax). Good luck!

I just moved from Dallas to the East Side this year and I am loving it here so far.

No problems with the Freeze either. I don't EXPECT to be anybody's best buddy yet, though. We've got some very friendly neighbors, some unfriendly ones, and some weird ones, but I've been meeting up with some great people.

The heat this weekend has been terrible though. Make sure you get a place with AC, then the horrible 80s outside won't turn into the horrible 90s in your house. 80s outside, eh, what's the big deal? ;-)

Default Also from dallas to Seattle

Hi. I moved to Seattle from Dallas a year ago this past March. I love, love love it here. I rent a top floor penthouse in Pioneer Square. This is a great neighborhood if you love coffee shops, art galleries and eclectic surroundings. I lived in Expo Park, in a loft in Dallas for 5 years. This neighborhood reminds me of Expo Park a lot.

Good luck on your hunt. You won't regret it.
