Yes. I hadn't thought about those exactly. My rent is 1000 a month, and i've been paying it for several years now. I'm completely serious though. I would like to own and have a family someday. I do help my friend out from time to time because she's an old family friend and I've always felt you have to look out for the kids first, so I can see where a family adds a bit to it. Still, I think I could really build so much more off of a 100k income. I went back and re-read texas trigirls post and that makes a lot of sense. Figure what you really want and need. Priorities, passions, values. I think I am probably less materialist than average so that might be why I see this way. I'm serious. I am going to find out how to do this (make a better income). Any one know of an apprenticeship or interesting way to break onto this path?

All I can say is that my husband has worked really hard since graduating with an MBA in '98. Long hours with a lot of stress. So I don't know if it's "worth it" but it is now paying off for him. I have always kept my CPA license current and work extra jobs from home whenever I can. We only have two kids and enjoy the heck out of them. We have planned and been diligent all along the way. So, yeah, you can do it. You just need to get a plan and stick to it. Esp. in a high cost place like Seattle.

Whoops, the irony. My rent just got bumped to 1,250.00. I had to give notice to leave July 1st.
