Hi,
So as part of our relocation to Seatte next month, we are planning to rent an apartment in Wallingford- 2nd Ave NE & NE Pacific St- because of its proximity to Hutch and UW where my spouse will work, and we have a 10 month old kid. From what we saw, it is quite residential, near trail/lake and overall we like it very much. Before we sign the lease though, would like to solicit opinions/feedback on any positives/negatives of the neignborhood. Thanks, -S |

It's pretty close to I-5..I'm not sure if you'd be impacted by freeway noise or not.
A major plus: you'll be within walking distance of Voula's Offshore Cafe, the best omelettes in Seattle. |

Wallingford is a great place to rent - and very walkable - a good place to take a toddler out on a nice stroller ride

The location is fine, the neighborhood is good. There will be fair amount of traffic along NE Pacific - there's a major lumber store nearby, and it is one of the roads to the city dump at 34th & Carr. There are a lot of families with young kids in Wallingford.

Check out the Seattle Community Centers. Lots of events for kids. Magnusson Community Center and Ravenna used to have open gym during the week, etc.

Thanks all for your feedback on Wallingford. We have a 10 month old and are also looking for a day care. Any suggestions? Most of the ones we explored are running a waitlist of 6 months-1 year.

I am only familiar with the UW child care, which is very good, imo. The waiting list used to be really long though.

If your husband is a UW employee, you could live in Radford Court Radford Court(UW housing that is primarily for UW employee's or family housing) It is close to the bus line, Magnusson Park, has grass and play toys for kids, on-site child care and community center. Seems like a good place for families.
Just a suggestion. |

Thanks!
Fred Hutch (Hutch Kids)/Radford all are running a year of waitlist. We have not yet tried the main UW day care. I will do that right away but I suspect that will have a long waitlist too. Any other 'private' day cares? Quote:

There is Bright Horizons in U village - it is TOP NOTCH..and has a great preschool/pre-k program too for the older kids. But it costs allot of $$$$. But to us, it was worth every penny.
