Thumbs up Thanks to ALL of you!

Thank you guys for your input and friendliness. When one makes a change like this it isn't done lightly. And new kids on the block always have a tenuous row to hoe. It sounds like ALL of us have been there. And given the nature of the forum everyone is shifting somewhere or they wouldn't be here. Also, sometimes the nature of the written word can more powerful and permanent than it was meant to be. These are not like conversations, really, where one can say "ooops, I didn't mean it than way."
Anyway! We are looking forward to going up next wk and throwing ourselves headlong into traffic on a Friday afternoon just to see what it is like. And spending the weekend looking and nosing around.
After living where we have, we have made a few rules for ourselves. In the prospective neighborhood....
1. sit outside the neighborhood grocery store for an hour at 5:30 or 6 pm
2. go to the library
3. look at CCollege classes for the community and see what people are into
4. read the newspaper for a time (which can be done for the most part on line now!)
5. talk talk talk to the natives, and look for consistencies in info

Thank you again, and keep communicating, all of you. This is all good.

do take notice of the customer service you get up here in the stores. Unlike anything I have ever seen where I used to live. People are so helpful and go ahead and use that blinker...they actually let you in!!!!!

Enjoy and be safe on your trip! You have my email and I will send you my phone number if you have time and want to grab a starbucks...(something you hear often up here.)

Default RE: customer service

Hi again! I do know what you mean by this. We felt that we were in the 'twilight zone' when we brought our daughter to college and how people treated us. eg. One lady in the bookstore gave us her home phone # after a 20 min conversation, saying if our daughter ever got lonely to come over. Or if we ever got concerned 'just call.' The clerk at the motel saw us checking in after a grueling day of moving and saying goodbyes, and upgraded us to the best room w/ a jacuzzi and said if our kid ever got short of funds to call her for sub desk work, and gave us her card!
Really comforting for a new empty nester. She ended up a few yrs later falling in love and marrying a native WA....
