Do they improve mood? By a lot? By a little? How often/many hours do you have them on you?

They do work very well for many people here, who have them on their desks at the office and in their homes. I know people who say S.A.D. lights make a big difference in their moods.

Here is a recent thread all about this subject:
Want to move to WA but scared of SAD

Sorry, MJ, I gave you the wrong thread (although there were a couple of useful posts in there, I think).
This is the recent thread I was thinking of:

I have one - I haven't brought it to work yet cuz it's Spring - but it will definately come with me in Sept when the clouds start rolling back in

I say it helps a little, every does a little, sun tan booths, sad lamp, vitamin D suppliments, and 5 HTP ( I have to do ALL these things, and I still have SAD, just not as severe as it was)

Those cost saving florescent bulbs contain more light waves than the standard incandescent.

If you really want to approach sunlight, spring for the full-spectrum bulbs, sometimes called 'grow lights'. They are used over plants sometimes and if you just put one near the bed and the chair you usually sit in, it should help a lot.

Also, remember to take vitamins A&D - I am told that they compliment each other and a person should take them in conjunction.

Costco had one of those blue light SAD light. My wife bought one for me and it did improved my mood. Make sure you use it in the morning and not at night.

That's a good point, otherwise you'd be up all night. So, maybe by the bed is not such a good idea.

Does your wife remember how much it cost?

I'm glad you feel better.
