Question Battle in Seattle?

I didn't live here at the time, but I'm interested in seeing this movie.

'Battle in Seattle'

Anyone have memories of the events?

While I wasn't downtown during the riots I remember them well. Not surprisingly every news outlet in town was broadcasting or printing items about the riots, whatever else was happening in the city, state, country and world took a backseat to news about the riots.

It was a very strange week...Seattle was front-page news throughout the world. Even a friend of mine in London told me that opening story on the BBC World News was about the riots for a couple of days.

The city of Seattle was declared to be under a civil emergency...much of downtown Seattle was blocked off and there was a curfew for downtown Seattle imposed as well.
As I said, the whole week was very strange, almost surreal.

I wasn't here

But I did see this was showing, and I really want to see this movie

Course I also wanted to see Black Gold, and I never got around to seeing that either

I was there. I went downtown to try to hook up with my local union's presence there for the march , and the place was so mobbed I could never find them, and ended up in the middle of the group of Tibetans, who were all shouting "Shame on China".
After the march there were a lot of people milling around, and a lot of police in riot gear...I sensed something bad was going to happen, so I hightailed it home.

It was craziness. I lived in Capital Hill at the time, working at Rainbow Grocery on 15th and was very newly pregnant. My husband was involved in the riots and I was a nervous wreck he would get hurt or arrested. Walking home from work was scary, and being on Broadway totally surreal.

My favorite memory was the news footage of an anarchist at NikeTown kicking down the Nike sign to protest something or other. But the footage clearly showed the shoes he was wearing as he was doing the kicking... can you guess what brand? They had a swoosh!
