Yeah, I know.

It's horrid.

The thing about Seattle summer weather is that it's USUALLY very nice. However, because the "normal" weather is not super hot (max average daily high is 78 in early August) you don't have to be too much below nornal for it to actually be pretty chilly for summer. I mean a 5 degree swing is very common and even 10 degrees is not too rare - and with a maximum daily high of 78 even at the height of summer, a 10 degree swing can give you a high of only 68 - and that's at the HEIGHT of summer. Now 68 is pleasant, but not a "height of summer" type day, by any means.

And remember, that's at the absolute peak of summer. This time of year, when the average daily high is only in the mid-upper 60's, even a 10 degree swing (let along a 20 degree one) makes it pretty darned chilly.

Unfortunately this year, that's what we seem to be getting.

Ken

Depends on your definition of Summer. If you are like me and summer is usually darn hot (over 90)

Then no, there is no summer here

But we should have a lovely but brief Spring in PARTS of July, August and Sept.

I'm actually not complaining...could be about ten degrees or so warmer, but I'm not complaining.

For somebody that suffers from reverse SAD weather like this is almost a blessing. Last summer wasn't too bad, however the summer of 2006 was not the best...

Our typical Seattle summers are nearly perfect for me, not too hot for extended periods, etc.

Yet another reason why I would never live in an area with long hot summers...

Good question Y'all!! Moved here from Austin last summer (a city hotly debated on the Seattle forum for some reason) and am really missing the heat but don't know if I am missing the 98 degree heat. I will land at Bergstrom on June 26 for several weeks so if radio dude says summer starts in Seattle July 12, I'm in. I get back from Austin July 13. As my friend who is native Texas and is now a Seattle resident of 7 years told me..."Fleece is your friend. 12 months a year. Now get over it." Good advice. So today in this February like weather I slogged through the downpour in my fleece, Marmot Precip and Keen boots into Starbucks while talking to my best friend in Austin who was sitting on her dock on Lake Travis drinking a margarita...wishing we could switch places. How funny is that right now?? Grass is usually greener.

Seattle - The place where people RAVE about the greatest summers ever that last about 3 months if you're lucky, with 60-80 deg weather and limited rain fall.

Hmmm, that's odd...That sounds a lot like Phoenix also, but that kind of weather lasts for about 8 months out of the year. Plus, you don't get mold spores under your car and in your door jams...I litterally had moss growing under my hood this last winter.

I've never seen so many people get so defensive about the weather than in Seattle. Why get take it so personal, it's not like you can control the weather?
