Hi everyone. Thanks to all who opened yet another "moving" thread . I don't have alot of details on my possible move but I wanted to start gathering info. as soon as possible. I was offered a school-based therapy job in Kent, WA. The base salary I was offered totals about $33,000 for a ten month contract. I am worried about the following issues:

1.) Can I afford a safe place in this area or will I be pinching pennies? I am very low maintenance. All I need is a 1bedroom apartment or studio. The company I am working for is offering up to $1300 per month for a furnished apartment (this is in addition to my salary and tax free).

2.) Will I feel comfortable in this area? I am a 23 year old African American female. I'm pretty comfortable in my own skin and tolerant. I'm thinking more along the lines of safety issues. I don't need Mayberry (I'm not dissing Mayberry. I believe my hometown was its sister city), but I would like to be able to go out after dark.

3.) How's the traffic? If I take the job in Kent, that's where I plan to live. I am from the Hampton Rds area of VA where the traffic can get pretty bad. However, I was usually able to take less congested side streets. Heavy traffic doesn't bother me so much as extremely fast traffic.

Please feel free to add any other cool things about the area or anything you think I should know. I have offers in the Chicago suburbs, Vegas, and Atlanta. I'm trying to narrow down my choices. Sorry for any typos. I'm on my way to work. Thanks for any information!

I'm pretty sure you can get a nice apartment in Kent for 1300 a month, and if you're living and working in Kent, traffic shouldn't be such an issue.
