I just thought about Pizza and Pipes the other day. As I remember, there were two of them. One in the Greenwood area, one in Bellevue.

Speaking of Bellevue, does anyone remember the "original" Bellevue Square? I remember it being more of a "strip mall" with a little amusement park out back. It also had a little wishing well that, as a kid we got to throw in pennies.

I barely remember the original Bellevue Square, but it was an outdoor mall with a couple major department stores, bigger than a typical strip mall.

What comes around goes around, though, as outdoor malls are now back in vogue, except they are now called "Lifesyle Centers". Here is an example in the Chicago suburbs:

Algonquin Commons

BTW, speaking of malls, anyone remember the Aurora Mall at 175th? It also was an outdoor mall with a Frederick & Nelson there at one time, and like Bellsquare had ponds where folks threw coins. Today it is the same property where Costco is.

The Aurora Mall is not that long gone. I know it was still there in the early 90s.

Yes, but time marches on! Early 90's, sadly, is almost 20 years ago. Frederick's closed I think a year or two earlier.

Aren't you folks referring to Aurora Village? It was located at 205th on Aurora against the county line; between 200th and 205th.

That's where the Fredrick and Nelson was located. There's a Costco in that general area now. I don't know what happened to the rest of the 'village' as I haven't been there in years.

Yes, of course!

I should have known that. Aurora VILLAGE!

Well, whatever they called it, it was a run down mall at the end of the metro busline on Aurora. And goodness, the nineties were 20 years ago? I am getting old....

In the 60's Aurora Village was quite vibrant. Alderwood Mall probably was responsible for its death. There is nothing left of the original Aurora Village.

BTW, here is some cool stuff on Bellevue Square, Northgate, and if you scroll down, even Aurora Village! (We also learn that the name was changed to the "Aurora Village Mall".)

MALL HALL OF FAME: August 2008

- Guido's Pizza by Greenlake. Beat Paggliacci hands-down... amazing pizza! They tore the building down and now there's a Zeek's and Bluewater Grill where it once was :/

- That restaurant, also by Greenlake, which was two teepees. Never actually went there but I drove by it every day as a kid.

- Greenlake Funeral Home is now Greenlake Montessori School (wonder if the kiddies know...)
