What are neighborhoods are they frequenting up in Seattle?

Here is how you know you have gangs around.
People start dying.
Not getting robbed (normal teens can do that), not getting burglarized (kids do that to), not when your car is stolen or broken into(again darn kids), but when people start shooting each other to KILL.

You will see a spike in murders in the affected areas. If you have a once off shooting every so often, that is NOT true gang activity, because real gangs do retalliation. And you would have a lot of innocecnt bystanders getting shot as well.

Madrona and West Seattle are known for being gang areas.

And yet, i never saw a gang member, and since i live in Oakland, the 5th most dangerous city in the country, i would be able to pick em out.

So sorry i saw nothing.

what gives??

suddenly I am thinking my move to Seattle was a dumb idea

I never seen anything that I would call gangs...just lowlife, but that's in every city. You must be referring to the bums. I seen one of 'those' gang members once....they came into the restaruant and wanted to use the restroom, but the owner kicked them out.

There's a difference between organized gangs, thugs, and young guys hanging out together. The latter two are often mistaken for the former.

You know there are gangs if there is a lot of drug use in an area, because illegal drugs are run into big cities almost entirely by gangs. But they may not be doing the crimes in a drug area, since it's the addicts who need to mug people or steal things - most thugs in my opinion are addicts looking to get quick money. And then they do stupid things like drive-bys when they've gotten their fix, just for the fun of it.

I think the organised gangs nowadays are a little less about random violence than they used to be, and more about getting a good profit from their trade without getting arrested, unless they're involved in a turf war to control a drug area.

In California there seems to be more gang turf wars, but in Seattle neighborhoods may be divided up more equitably.

The large groups of young males are just that, not organized gangs, but people with too much time on their hands, occasionally tagging or shoplifting or whatever. Sometimes they're not really doing much of anything illegal, they just dress like TV or movie gangs because it's fashionable for young people to do that.

What gangs? Has M13 moved up here? Seriously? I think these kids are just bored and misguided youth who want to pass themselves off as hardcore gangbangers. They aren't IMO.

HeraldNet: Seattle teen's slaying may have gang links

Seattle does have gangs I can't believe anyone with a brain would say that Seattle does not have a gang problem.

I can't believe anyone with a brain would think any major city doens't have criminal gangs. They are there in Seattle, but I don't think they are as rampant as in other major cities (LA, phoenix, dallas, NYC, etc).

Some facts and not just heresay...

Compared to Phoenix:
Per 100,000 people for violent crimes

Seattle Phoenix
murders: 4.1 13.8
rapes: 15.4 33
assualts: 347 356
auto thft: 988 1353

Now compare pristine Seattle with most any city and you'll realize seattle is in fact paradise.
