Default Living on an Island, where does one work?
Hi,

I am relocating and am very interested in island-living. But where do does one get a job? Do people work in Seattle proper? What are best and easiest commutes? Thanks.

Which island? Some have bridges, some have ferries and the rest are on their own.

Vashon Island is a 20 minute ferry ride from downtown Seattle, Bainbridge Island is a 35 minute ferry ride from downtown, Mercer Island is a 10 minte drive from downtown over a bridge, and Whidbey is an hour +. All are nice places. Lots of people commute via ferries to downtown Seattle.

When I lived in Seattle I worked on Bainbridge for a few months....kinda a reverse ferry commute I guess?

Anyways, my point is ...tough..... The stress of catching a ferry at the time you want to be on a ferry. To many variables and if you are late by 1 minute...buh bye! ( it reall frustrating/helpless watching "your boat" sail away)
Then the next one is xxx minutes away. Im sure people much better at early morning time management then I, perhaps would find it a okay. Me....STRESS!

Lots of down time on the boat ride....bring something to do in the car!
