Default Moving to Seattle

Hi,

I'm looking to move to the Seattle area from Dallas mostly for the outdoors and culture\urban feel that Dallas doesn't have. I'm a single male and just turned 24 with a good job, so I'm looking to get away from the suburban hell that is Plano and meet people who don't revolve their life around churches the size of super Walmart, driving SUVs and hiding in their McMansions.

I've never visited Seattle before but have visited Portland and loved it; I assume it's a bigger and nicer version of Portland. I'm looking to rent an apartment somewhere in a relatively nice and vibrant area with young professionals. Also, my job requires a lot of travel, so one of the primary criteria would be to live relatively close (30 mins in bad traffic) to the airport.

Can someone suggest some general areas where I should be looking for a place and any other information would be incredibly useful.

Thanks!

Hahahaha, I hear ya. I worked in Plano for 7 years. I consider Plano to be the poster city for everything that's wrong with contemporary American development. And god knows Plano is no place for a single guy.

You'll like Seattle. Dallas women are hotter though.

Seattle is far more compact than Dallas. SeaTac is easily accessed from almost anywhere in the Seattle area.

There is no Walmart in Seattle! You have to leave town to find one. Happy?

Dallas has a ton of MILFs and pregnant and\or scary girls. No way it can get any worse.

Seattle and Portland are somewhat alike but there are some key differences. Portland has a better public transit system and feels much less like a big city. The wages there are lower, and the housing prices are slightly lower as well. Seattle has the energy of a big metropolis and is the home to many large corporations, so there are tons more high paying jobs. It's slightly more expensive. The transit situation lags behind Portland (which has got to be among the best in the U.S. for cities in the 2-3 million metro size).

If you don't like suburbia, churches, Walmart, SUVs and large houses you'll fit in well in Seattle.

My vote is for West Seattle. It's pretty, it has stuff to do, and it's within 30 minutes of the airport, and it has Alki Beach, a mecca for rollerskaters and beach volleyball players and good restaurants.

Within Seattle city limits, Capitol Hill is extremely yuppie.. in it's own quirky Capitol Hill way. Mostly young, hip, artsy mid 20-somethings or trendy urban families. Great nightlife. Very "progressive".
