The traffic to me isn't bad coming from CA, but the people here drive like ass.

The cost of living isn't that much cheaper than CA (we moved here thinking it would be), though maybe when the housing crisis hits, it will be better.

I don't like the attitude of the people here, who like to talk about how much smarter they are than everybody else, yet only 35% of high school students here graduate from college, and they only need 2 years of math to graduate from high school. I've also read that their schools are years behind schools in CA. So, I'm guessing it's the transplants that bring up the IQ of the state, not the locals.

I don't like not having A/C (although obviously we haven't needed it yet this summer), but I don't care, if I need it 1 day a year, I want it. You only need your heater a couple days a year in CA, but every house still has one. And if I can't have an A/C at least give me a heater with a thermostat. These stupid baseboard heaters that basically have 2 settings (Too Hot or Too Cold) are pissing me off.

There are some things I like though (medical care seems better here than CA, no state income tax, enchanted forests everywhere, to name a few).

I'm OK with the weather.
Of course the scenery is spectacular.
It is the people that are the problem (read the freeze thread).

Yes I am working on leaving.

She said the reviewers found that some math concepts are introduced later in Washington than elsewhere. Fractions, for example, are taught to Washington fourth-graders, but to second-graders in Singapore and California.
I don't just pull stuff out of my ass. I can post more links if you'd like.

I see nothing there that compares it to California schools. There is a problem with our math curriculum, no doubt. But show me standardized test scores that show Californian students faring better than Washington students. This is pulled from one of your articles:

But they questioned why Plattner didn't compare Washington with states with high math achievement, not just well-regarded standards. Washington, for example, scores higher than California in math on the National Assessment of Educational Progress, or NAEP.

There's a quote that shows WA teaches some thing 2 years behind CA, how is that not a comparison to CA schools?

And do you have a link to back up your claim that WA scores higher than CA?

According to this study CA and WA have nearly identical public high school and graduation readiness rates.

Manhattan Institute|Public High School Graduation and College-Readiness Rates: 1991-2002

California has a lot of transplants too;, did you consider that perhaps it is the transplants in California that are raising the IQ there...?

California has a lot of transplants too, did you ever consider the fact that perhaps it is the transplants in California that are raising the IQ there....?
Yes, but the point was, that the people of Seattle are the ones that love to talk about how much more intelligent they are than everyone else. I don't see a lot of that on the CA boards. That was the only point I was making in my previous post about what I don't like about WA: the self-masturbatory way in which Washingtonians like to advertise they think they're smarter than everyone else.

I mean, when I posted on the CA board how I wanted to move back to San Diego, someone from WA came over and made some smart ass post about how much smarter WA people are. WTF? You don't see people from the San Diego board coming over here to slam WA.

Sorry, haven't run into situations like that and I don't often hear Washingtonians boast about being smarter than everyone else.

Why does that bother you so much? California, the bay area and Orange County in particular, is infamous for it's sense of superiority. San Diego's motto is "America's finest city". It doesn't really bother me at all. Some jerkoff on the general board said that he is treated like royalty when he is out of state when people see his California plates. That is the prevailing attitude there. It is what it is, it doesn't affect me whatsoever.
