I was just looking into re-homing kittens when I came across your post.
Summer is 'kitten season' and most shelters are full right now. I understand what you are going through and I sympathize. My neighbor has 36 cats because he can't find any shelters and I have 13 permenent cats, one foster with down-syndrome, and 9 kittens to re-home because a stray got into my house. If my house wasn't so full I would take your cat in a heart-beat, that's actually how I ended up with so many in the first place.
One of my girls has an issue with pooping on the carpet even after I've cleaned the serveral boxes they have. It's a territory and comfort thing.
I understand what you meant when you were trying to make a point about the humane society thing. I commend you for your efforts to avoid that.
You may want to try printing flyers and posting them at vet offices and grocery stores. There are people like me and my neighbor out there who are ready to help and don't realize it.
I wish you the best and hope your cat finds a good home!

By the way, people thinking you don't care after you've made such an effort really pisses me off too. If you're pregnant you shouldn't be around cat urine at all!!!
(Man you must be "an awful person" for wanting to find it a good home and not getting your baby sick in the process!)

We found a friend in the bay area to take him, my parents are driving up next week, and taking him back with them.

It's so sad
You said your cats were family yet you want to give them away. Nice!! I agree with the other poster....you would not give away your kids if they had problems, or would you??? Have you tried the litter called: Yesterday's news or Feline pine?? Maybe the cats would be better off in a home where they are totally accepted for all their faults.

It's sad when people DUMP their pets (outside, at the shelters, etc) what's sad about finding another loving home for them? You can't equate a pet, with your children, even if you are an animal lover... and you are right, a different home, situation, etc may be much better for the pet in the long run.

Hooray!
I must say your parents should be nominated for Sainthood...
I have traveled with my cat before and all I can say is ....Wow how can so much noise come from such a small kitty, it was like an air raid siren for all 1000 miles including a few tense moments in a motel bathroom and ambush attacks on my feet while driving.....and she was such a sweet cat normally..
Happy Ending to what Im sure was a not pleasant choice...

Anyone notice how Veronika's rep has been going up on this thread?
I know she got my vote. I've been in that boat. We got lucky and managed to correct a behavioral issue but we were really stressed for a bit unsure what we'd have to do!
